A larger room in a care home, usually taken under an occupation right agreement.
What it is
Some care homes offer care suites alongside standard rooms. Most operators that describe them say a care suite is taken under an occupation right agreement (the contract that lets you live there), as a unit in a retirement village is: you pay a sum up front for the right to live in the suite. Operators describe them as larger rooms you can furnish yourself, some with a living area and kitchenette.
Not every home uses the word the same way. CHT, for example, says its care suites come without an occupation right agreement. Eldernet lists care suite vacancies separately from standard rooms.

Who it suits
Someone who needs care, wants more space or their own furniture, and can pay a sum up front. Because the money works like a village unit, the agreement matters as much as the care: what you pay, what you get back, and when.
What it costs
Few operators publish a price. 3 on this site do, as read on 15 and 16 October 2026:

Ask each home, in writing: the up-front sum, the exit fee (deferred management fee) and how it builds up, any weekly fees for the suite, what you pay each day or week for care on top, and whether the Residential Care Subsidy can help with the care part.
How to get it
Ask the home whether a needs assessment is needed first, as it is for a standard room. Before you sign, ask for the disclosure statement (the summary of the deal) and get independent legal advice. For retirement village agreements the law gives you 15 working days to change your mind after signing; ask whether that applies to the suite. What an occupation right agreement means.

- Is this suite taken under an occupation right agreement? Can I see the disclosure statement?
- What is the exit fee, how does it build up, and what is the most it can reach?
- What do I pay each day or week for care, on top of the suite?
- When will I be repaid after leaving, and is interest paid while I wait?
- Can you meet my care needs now, and as they change?
